Ingredients
- 4 teaspoons yeast
- 1 cup water, warm
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 cups milk
- 3 teaspoons salt
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 4 cups flour, sifted
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon mace
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
- 2/3 cup shortening, melted
- 5 cups flour
Recipe
- 1 proof yeast with 1 t sugar and water.
- 2 scald milk salt and sugar.
- 3 add shortening
- 4 let cool.
- 5 add to yeast.
- 6 add eggs mace zest.
- 7 add 4 cups flour beat until smooth
- 8 add more flour enough to make a smooth dough.
- 9 cover let double.
- 10 on floured board
- 11 roll dough 1/2 inch thick.
- 12 cut with round cutter.
- 13 place on greased baking sheets
- 14 brush with melted fat.
- 15 cover and rise until light.
- 16 make deep depression in center
- 17 and fill with fruit filling(i have many recipes for fillings).
- 18 let rise again.
- 19 bake in400 degree oven.
- 20 15 minutes.
