Memphis-style Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • Servings: 25
  • 1 (24 ounce) bottle ketchup
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper, freshly ground
  • 2 teaspoons instant minced onion
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce

Recipe

  • 1 in a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, water, vinegar, both sugars, pepper, onion & mustard. bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
  • 2 reduce heat to low & simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • 3 add lemon juice & worcestershire sauce, then simmer for another 30 minutes.
  • 4 remove from heat & let it cool, before pouring into an airtight container & refrigerate not longer than 3 weeks.
