Sesame And Black Pepper Seared Tuna

Ingredients

- 2 lbs tuna steaks
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 2 teaspoons sesame seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Recipe
- 1 mix together ingredients 2 through 5 to make a marinade.
- 2 marinate the tuna steaks for at least 10 minutes (i tend to buy sashimi grade tuna medallions/steaks).
- 3 pour the two oils into a frying pan, preferably non-stick or anodized, and heat over low-medium flame.
- 4 place the tuna steaks in the hot oil.
- 5 pour one teaspoon corn starch each tuna steak, then one teaspoon sesame seeds and half the fresh ground black pepper.
- 6 after about 4 minutes, flip the steak over. cover the other side with 1 teaspoon sesame seeds and the rest of the fresh ground black pepper.
- 7 cook for another 3-4 minutes.
- 8 flip the tuna steak over one last time for about 1 min to toast the sesame seeds.
- 9 let rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
