Sesame And Black Pepper Seared Tuna

Total Time: 20 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 10 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 2 lbs tuna steaks
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Recipe

  • 1 mix together ingredients 2 through 5 to make a marinade.
  • 2 marinate the tuna steaks for at least 10 minutes (i tend to buy sashimi grade tuna medallions/steaks).
  • 3 pour the two oils into a frying pan, preferably non-stick or anodized, and heat over low-medium flame.
  • 4 place the tuna steaks in the hot oil.
  • 5 pour one teaspoon corn starch each tuna steak, then one teaspoon sesame seeds and half the fresh ground black pepper.
  • 6 after about 4 minutes, flip the steak over. cover the other side with 1 teaspoon sesame seeds and the rest of the fresh ground black pepper.
  • 7 cook for another 3-4 minutes.
  • 8 flip the tuna steak over one last time for about 1 min to toast the sesame seeds.
  • 9 let rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
