Fried Green Tomatoes

Total Time: 50 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 4 large green tomatoes, sliced thick (or ripe tomatoes)
  • 1/4 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 dash cayenne
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried herbs (of your choice)
  • 1/2 cup soymilk
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • salt and pepper

Recipe

  • 1 mix flour, cornmeal, sugar, cayenne, and herbs.
  • 2 dampen tomato slices with soymilk.
  • 3 coat with flour mixture.
  • 4 heat oil to medium in a heavy, nonstick frying pan.
  • 5 fry tomatoes, turning once or twice, until golden brown.
  • 6 remove tomatoes to serving platter.
  • 7 sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • 8 to bits of browned flour in pan, add 1/2 cup milk.
  • 9 cook and stir until a gravy is formed.
  • 10 pour over tomatoes.
  • 11 serve immediately.
